SUMMARY: Employees will perform inspections of residential homes (1-4 units or multi-family projects) under a contract for statewide utility administered energy efficiency program(s). Inspections will be conducted randomly to ensure that pre-established installation, quality and customer service standards are met by program contractors. These inspections will be performed on work completed in existing homes (retrofit measures) and work performed under the EnergyStar New Construction Program. The inspection process will include visual inspections conducted during the audit/installation process, as well as post installation visits. The inspection process may include the use of blower doors, duct blasters, and/or infrared cameras. Inspectors will be verifying that equipment was installed properly, that all cost-effective opportunities for energy efficient installations were addressed and that customer interface and education protocols were followed.

All equipment, including uniforms, needed for the job will be provided by the company. QA/QC Inspectors will be required to provide their own transportation for this position with the company reimbursing Inspectors for mileage at normal rates.

All Inspectors working on the retrofit component of the program will be required either to have BPI Certifications, or, take and pass the Building Performance Institute (BPI) Analyst and Envelope Training courses. All Inspectors working on the new construction program will be required to be HERS Raters or take and pass relevant courses prior to starting work. CRI will pay expenses related to required certification programs, as applicable.

SKILLS NEEDED TO DO YOUR JOB:

Love customers and enjoy going into new homes every day of all income levels and neighborhoods!

Desire to save energy and the environment and increase the comfort level for customers in their homes.

Ability to learn and maintain the basic understanding of energy conservation theories and apply those theories to the home inspection process to produce the best energy savings for the customers and to explain those theories to customers in terms they will understand.

The ability to report on your completed work, including the completion of utility required forms being filled out accurately, inventory status, timesheets, mileage, etc. This requires good reading and math skills.

Demonstrates an understanding of the role of the utility clients, the program goals and expectations.

The ability to follow prescribed safety standards and procedures.

Ability to pass BPI and/or HERS Rater certification exams and in-field testing.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

Minimum: Must hold a high school diploma. Must have strong interest in energy and/or home construction. Should have technical background.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read and comprehend instructions, short correspondence, maintenance and equipment manuals, and memos. Ability to complete forms neatly and accurately. Ability to effectively present information to customers. Speaking a second language is helpful, though not required.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to add, subtract, divide and multiply all units of measure, including fractions, whole numbers and decimals.

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instruction. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

Automobile and valid state drivers license, registration and vehicle insurance. You must pass a criminal, credit, driving background check, and drug test prior to being hired.
